Overview

The Fleet Transportation Maintenance Manager will oversee the fleet process including compliance, safety, inspections, and service repairs. The Fleet Transportation Maintenance Manager plays a critical role in ensuring safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of the company’s vehicle fleet.  

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive maintenance schedules for all vehicles in the fleet, including trucks, vans, and specialized equipment 
  • Manage a team of maintenance technicians and internal maintenance coordinators, providing leadership, guidance, and performance management to ensure efficient and effective maintenance operations 
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements, maintaining accurate records and documentation for inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance 
  • Control maintenance costs by optimizing repair processes, negotiating vendor contracts, and managing inventory of spare parts and supplies 
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies, tools, and equipment to improve fleet maintenance processes and enhance vehicle performance and longevity  
  • Create and maintain detailed maintenance schedules for each vehicle in the fleet, outlining regular service intervals and inspection requirements 
  • Oversee the daily operations of the maintenance team, assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and providing technical support and guidance as needed 
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure that all vehicles meet safety and compliance standards, addressing any issues promptly and effectively  
  • Analyze maintenance and repair costs, identifying opportunities to reduce expenses without compromising the quality and reliability of the fleet 
  • Research and evaluate emerging technologies and maintenance best practices, presenting recommendations for process improvements and equipment upgrades to enhance efficiency and effectiveness 
  • Maintain work area, equipment, and tools in a clean and organized manner; follow all Safety Guidelines 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

Education

A high school diploma or GED is required; a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).  

 

Experience & Skills:  

  • At least 5 years of experience in fleet maintenance management, preferably in a transportation or logistics setting 
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage a team and collaborate with other departments 
  • In-depth knowledge of vehicle maintenance best practices, industry regulations, and compliance standards 
  • Proficiency in using maintenance management software and tools to schedule, track, and analyze fleet maintenance activities 
  • Must successfully complete a criminal background check, drug screen and E-verify
