Overview

Position Summary

The Director of Modernizations is responsible for effective planning, delegating, coordinating, staffing, organizing, and decision making to attain the desirable profit making results for the Modernization Team. The Director of Modernizations is directly responsible for the profit and loss of the Modernization Team.

Responsibilities

Job Duties

  1. Manage and direct the operations and administrative activities of the Process Modernization business.
  2. Manage and further develop internal documentation and process requirements.
  3. Work with vendors to ensure on time delivery of components.
  4. Travel to job sites, as needed, for sales, operations, estimating or customer relations.
  5. Provide necessary support and field supervision for crane / modernization projects or activities. Assume the role of project manager, directing all operations and field activities, as required.
  6. Create and maintain schedule of all ongoing projects. Coordinate with Field Project Engineers as to the completeness and accuracy of the schedule.
  7. Responsible for the planning that occurs before a project is started.
  8. Responsible for the direction and management of on-site field service crews and/or subcontractors. Works with the field project engineers and subcontractors to ensure all aspects of job are complete.
  9. Must be capable of performing the complex calculations necessary for risk assessments, resource allocation, and budgeting of modernization projects.
  10. Maintain clear and concise communication with key sub-contractors, vendors and customers.
  11. Oversee routine changes to the active jobs report, as needed. Ensure the active jobs report reflects current status of any active modernization work and is updated as needed.
  12. Report all potential warranty claims to respective vendors and/or Mazzella Companies personnel.
  13. Maintain on-going communications with sales department, marketing and staff, as appropriate, regarding opportunities or issues related to the growth of the business unit.
  14. Monitor the profit level of Modernization team.
  15. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

 

Education:
A high school diploma or GED is required; a Bachelor’s degree in engineering required; Master’s degree in Engineering or Business Administration preferred

 

Experience & Skills

  • At least 2 years in a Senior management role or equivalent military experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • Willingness to stay educated in the crane industry; as cranes become increasingly sophisticated, need to be increasingly computer literate and technologically savvy.
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing that meets company requirements
  • The standard schedule is 40 hours per week but must have the ability to work varied hours, additional hours and on-call as required to meet customer needs
  • Requires solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical, conceptual and planning skills are required
  • Excellent math skills and overall PC literacy (Microsoft Office) are required
  • Must be detail oriented, self-motivated and disciplined with the ability to multi-task
  • Must successfully complete a criminal background check, physical, drug screen and E-verify

Travel
Travel for this position is more than 50%
