Overview

The Safety Coordinator is an integral part of the Quality, Safety, Reliability and Transportation (QSTR) Team. This role is responsible for assisting the division and locations within with the execution and management of the safety programs and initiatives.

Responsibilities


1. Work with management to ensure organizations safety compliance
2. Design, implement, and manage safety programs and opportunities for improvement with Director of Safety
3. Conduct site inspections and audits, facilitate regulatory agency visits
4. Manage planning and preparedness for Emergency Action and Response at the sites
5. Develop, conduct, and audit training, compliance, and on the job execution
6. Participate in strategic and tactical planning and initiatives with management
7. Work with Human Resources to manage workers’ compensation claims, return to work programs, and safety claim management
8. Manage regular job risk assessments and hazard controls, including PPE assessments
9. Conduct incident investigations, root-cause analysis and corrective actions
10. Schedule and execute air, noise, and environmental sampling and analysis
11. Prepare and communicate safety Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and reports
12. Work with the internal teams regarding customer and contractor management requirements
13. Maintain safety records in various internal and external management information systems
14. Maintain work area, equipment, and tools in a clean and organized manner; follow all Safety Guidelines
15. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education
• A high school diploma or GED is required; an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university in a related discipline; such as Environment Healthy and Safety (EHS) or Occupational Safety and health (OSH) or related field from an accredited college/university and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH). In the absence of a degree, directly related job experience serving in a safety role, where a number of years and proven knowledge may offset the degree requirement.
• Health and Safety Certifications (i.e. NIOSH, OSHA, etc.)

 

Experience & Skills
• At least 5+ years in health and safety experience in an industrial and manufacturing environment
• Serious Injury & Fatality program experience (i.e. Work at Height, Arc Flash/Electrical, Material Handling, Equipment Operation)
• Extensive knowledge of occupational and environmental safety and health
• Proven effective written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated analytical, conceptual, and planning skills
• Evidenced detail orientation and self-motivation in a role
• Technical aptitude - overall PC literacy (Windows, Microsoft Office…)
• Valid driver’s license in good standing that meets company requirements
• Must successfully complete a criminal background check, drug screen and E-verify
Demonstrate care and concern for all team members
• Understand and lead the execution of Mazzella safety programs and training for team members and stakeholders
• Make safety a daily point of emphasis and regularly communicate as much with your teams
• Report all injuries, incidents and near hits immediately and investigate to identify root cause and corrective actions
• Keep yourself and others safe by identifying hazards and implementing control measures to eliminate/reduce risk
• Contact Director of Safety upon being contacted by an official of a regulatory agency such as OSHA, EPA, etc.


Travel
Travel for this position will be approximately 25% - 50%.
